On Friday my mother-in-law, DeLois Smith, called with a surprise: she'd booked us a room at The Alluvian Hotel in Greenwood, MS in honor of my birthday! As soon as I got home from work, we packed a suitcase and headed to the Delta. On Saturday we spent some time in Turn Row Book Co., one of the finest independent book stores in the South. We also went to The Mississippi Gift Company, which carries art, pottery, spa products, and food products made in Mississippi. In keeping with our tradition, we bought some "local" honey. I had two choices: Magnolia Honey Company ($9 for 8 oz.) or Beelicious ($5.50 for 5 oz. in a decorative bottle). In honor of DeLois, we bought some Beelicious honey, as the apiary is in the Hattiesburg area.
